the Sustainability UX Canvas (SUXC) is a tool, that helps you integrate sustainability into your design process.
It tries to tackle different aspects of sustainability and supports you, building a more sustainable product
in the end. The SUXC is currently available in English and German. Also included is a manual that contains background information about sustainability and usage.
Not enough attention is paid to resource consumption in the digital space. Even improvements that are small on paper can have a big impact when viewed in the big picture.
Let's take a look at the Amazon website for this. The Amazon website consumes around 1.233g of CO2 every time someone visits the site. On average, 8.95 different pages are called up per visit. With 2.5 billion monthly visits to the site, this corresponds to a CO2 emissions of 331,060,500 kg per year. If only 0.25g less C02 were emitted per page view, 67,125,000 kg of CO2 could be saved every year.
Note: Even tough these figures are based on estimates from ecograder and similarweb, it shows the great potential that is in Sustainable UX Design.
The SUXC is constantly being further developed in order to better address the issue of sustainability in digital products. If you have any ideas or feedback on how to improve the SUXC, please feel free to reach out.
